¡THE QC LOCAL!
Charlotte’s a busy place. Here’s the best of it.
🎢 You likely clicked on this week’s edition of the QC Local because you thought “there has to be a story behind why he’s quoting Toby Keith.” Bad news, there’s no story.
Kidding, here’s the story:
Tuesday, 9/9, 7:24 P.M., Dowd YMCA.
The EY CPA League Basketball Team is down 48-47 to PWC with 2 minutes left, doing everything we can to stay in the game with only 6 men. Down 1, I bring the ball up, swing the rock to my guy Ryan Nofsinger, and make a cut to the hoop to grab my first bucket of the game. We then cause a turnover and heave the ball down to my roommate, Jack Lorick, who lays an easy one in to go up 3. After another turnover, I get fouled with 36 seconds left, with a made free throw that could secure the win. Of course, I absolutely brick my third free throw of the game, and PWC heaves up a last second prayer that goes in to take it to OT, which we lost in heartbreaking fashion. I clearly can’t handle the pressure.
Anyways…
🌹ROSE
After a horrific past Sunday, it’s clear the Panthers can’t get worse, and ticket prices are already dropping. For next week’s home opener vs. the Atlanta Falcons, tickets are less than $50, which is in the bottom 20% of NFL home opener ticket prices, according to ChatGPT.
🪷BUD
I’m not going to lie; I was hesitant about the new Tyber Creek Pub after the history and awesomeness of the past location. However, this past Saturday, I was taken aback by the new location, as it was just as greasy as I remember, which nearly brought tears to my eyes. While they souped it up a little bit, it’s still a big dive bar at heart.
DEAL OF THE WEEK
🥙 While this isn’t necessarily a “deal”, it’s by far one of the cheapest meals in Charlotte, and the perfect amount of food for lunch.
Yafo’s kids’ meal: Choice of Protein (Shawarma Chicken, obviously), Choice of Side (Mac N’ Cheese, heavenly), a warm pita and a drink for $6.
I regularly eat this for Saturday lunch, but you could get away with this for a small budget dinner.
Scoop N’ Scootery
‼️About two weeks ago, we gave into the hype and tried the viral Scoop N’ Scootery. With 3 Boston locations, their first location in a new market has been a success. Literally everyone that I know has told me about it within the past three weeks and that I needed to try it.
To be fair, it was awesome, and the ice cream was really good. Having worked at Golden Cow for my guy Alex Hannah for three years, I don’t eat much ice cream anymore, but this place gets a ✅ of places you should visit in CLT. The “Classic” Bowls are what they are known for, and they have a really efficient ordering system in there. It’s a pretty penny, but the place is consistently packed for a reason. Definitely worth checking out.
UNDERRATED IN THE 704
I was blanking a little bit on what to put here today, but my friend Amanda happened to tell me about a new spot in Dilworth called Sushi Bowl+, that serves up awesome Poke Bowls. I’d never even heard of it, but apparently its really solid. Nothing like a good poke bowl, so definitely checking it out this week.
other goings on 🔥
QC Local favorite, Harriet’s Hamburgers is opening a Plaza Midwood location, which is huge news. Hoping they can make it to Southend.
The Panda Fest is coming to Charlotte this weekend, which is an Asian Street Food fest with over 200+ vendors coming to Ballantyne this weekend. Ticket are only $14, so would definitely check it out.
