The 18th green, as Scottie was coming up

¡THE QC LOCAL!

Charlotte’s a busy place. Here’s the best of it.

🎢 Sitting on the 15th hole of Quail Hollow last Saturday at the PGA Championship, I watched the infamous Bryson Dechambeau sink a birdie putt to take the lead. Immediately after, he lifted up both arms to pump up the crowd, which everyone willingly obliged to. As the crowd roared, I looked around to see at least several thousand people roaring along with me. Despite the tournament having free food, everyone in that crowd on the 15th hole was holding a drink, meaning that the high drink prices didn’t deter patrons in the slightest.

Even though Scottie Scheffler won the tournament, the PGA Championship secured a big win for Charlotte this weekend, in terms of the economic impact. With Charlotte’s last PGA Championship being less than a decade ago (2017), the PGA clearly likes Charlotte as location for tournaments. In 2017, the PGA Championship brought over $100 million in total economic impact to Charlotte, and $121 million in economic impact from the 2021 President’s Cup. While the economic impact hasn’t yet been reported, I’d imagine that the economic impact would be at least $150 million, considering the masses that we saw.

  • Although my hitting was utterly abysmal, our softball team was able to mercy rule our first-round playoff opponents, 14-3, due to smart baserunning and minimal defensive errors. Under the fearless leadership of our coach, Will Grisham, we are looking to steal a championship in our first season. To be continued…

  • I’ve got plans to get out to Jon G’s this weekend, which I’m incredibly excited about. If you’re unfamiliar, Jon G’s Barbecue is in Peachland, NC (about 45 minutes away) and only open on Saturday’s from 11am to sellout (which they always do). Courtesy of local breweries, Jon G’s offers 2 free beers to each customer waiting in line, as well as a BYOB policy to supplement that. Supposedly, Jon G’s has some of the best barbecue in the state and allegedly catered Ben Affleck and JLo’s wedding. I’m eyeing their Brisket Fried Rice.

I mean, this looks unbelievable

NEW GRADS - ENTRY LEVEL/ANALYST JOBS

‼️This past Monday, a lot of great friends of mine graduated from Wake, which is always a bittersweet time. As a class of 2024 graduate, I remember the certain panic that set in once I graduated and got back home, realizing all the real-world problems that I was soon to face. For everyone that just graduated, the panic is whole-heartedly unnecessary. With a little effort, everything works itself out. However, if you’re a young person looking for a job, here are 5 great entry level Charlotte jobs that I sourced, all posted this week.

P.S. - When I did this for internship season, we helped 3 people land summer internships!

(1 of) My Favorite Restaurants Right Now

Optimist Hall has a cornucopia of phenomenal food options, as many people know. Whether you hit Papi Queso, The Dumpling Lady or Noble Smoke, you can’t really go wrong. However, my personal favorite has to be Harriet’s, who just opened their third location (Concord) this past week.

Boasting my personal favorite burger in town, and McDonald’s like crispy fries, this is one of the elite $15 and under meals in Charlotte. While a lot of people will tell you Ace No. 3 is the best in town, I’ve always preferred Harriet’s. If you haven’t gone, this is your sign.

other goings on 🔥

  • Monday Night Brewing is partnering with the “Running Raptors” to host their first Beer Mile on Saturday, May 24th at 11:30. Registration is $25 and covers your beer and a trophy.

  • A “Turnkey Scooter Fleet Opportunity” was posted on BizBuySell for $16k, boasting >$4k/month in gross profits. 3-year lease. This one is tempting to go headfirst into, but I’d do some research before delving into it.

  • Huge shoutout to my guy and fellow Charlotte guru, Edwin Peacock, for being elected to fill the vacant spot on the Charlotte City Council. Cheers, my friend. Expect to be pestered about things the city needs.

Beer miles have really taken over run clubs. Thought this was just a college thing.
