"Surely, you aren't the QC Local!"

I am the QC Local, and don't call me Shirley

surely, you can’t be serious!

¡THE QC LOCAL!

Charlotte’s a busy place. Here’s the best of it.

🎢 Two weeks ago, I was gearing up to send an edition of the QC Local out on a Friday (as per usual) but was planning on spending some of my time in the airport to get it done on Thursday since I was traveling for work.

Since you didn’t get a newsletter two weeks ago, you can probably guess that the universe had other plans for me. On my last day of my work trip, I woke up with a 102 fever and what I thought was strep throat (tested negative 🙏), which is never fun, much less on a work trip. However, I powered through to the airport and got on my plane, hoping to be in my bed soon. Again, the universe had other plans.

Four hours of bad lightning near the runway caused us to be delayed for about 5 hours and we even had to switch pilots. When I finally made it home, my mom sent my brother with a vat of Yafo Mac n Cheese because she felt so bad. My friend Sarah deemed it to be “Jack Malloy and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.” Anyway…

🌹ROSE

  • Dilworth Tasting Room has been at the top of my list recently. While their food is awesome, their cocktail menu features over 100 cocktails, which is pretty ridiculous. While I have only knocked out a small percentage of them, their take on the El Diablo was delicious. Also, highly recommend the Gnocchi for your entree, you won’t regret it.

🪷BUD

  • After the Panthers wrapped up their final preseason game, getting three losses out of the way before the games start to actually matter, I can’t wait for Sundays in Charlotte. With the tides seemingly turning in the right direction for the Panthers, maybe a couple wins will give CLT the culture boost that it needs with the year-over-year population growth sitting at 2.5%. Plus, The Doghouse is the absolute place to be on NFL Sundays, even if you aren’t going to the game.

DEAL OF THE WEEK

🍔 Found this out on my own, but my friends and I abused this the other day.

  • IF you download the Local by Toast app, you can earn rewards for local restaurants by signing up for their loyalty programs. Most restaurants give you some points to start out.

  • HOWEVER, when you sign up for the loyalty program at Harriet’s Hamburgers (Optimist Hall Location), you get 250 free bonus points, which gets you enough points to redeem a free burger. 7 of my friends and I tried it, it’s legit. Highly recommend if you want a free delicious burger.

Farewell to Resident Culture🐝

  • While I’d been to Resident Culture on several occasions, I was bummed to hear that it closed a couple weeks back, primarily because I never got to try their breakfast burrito, which was supposedly one of the best in the city. Sad to see another Charlotte staple close.

However, it’s about time for….

Updated Breakfast Burrito Standings

I’m still working my way through all of the Breakfast Burrito Recs, but here is the updated top 3 with brief descriptions of each:

  1. People’s Market (Selwyn Location)

    • Best one I’ve had in the city. Get it with Sausage as the protein. A bit pricey, fair warning.

  2. Reid’s “Burrito Ranchero”

    1. Really strong with a great mix of flavors. I tend to go to the Selwyn location, but I know they’re served at all three locations.

  3. Giddy Goat

    1. More of a scramble that gets thrown into a tortilla but is really good when it comes out hot. Bit of a trek to Plaza, but still worth the try.

UNDERRATED IN THE 704

Pasta and Provisions is well known in the QC for having some of the best fresh pasta and premade lasagnas that money can buy, but as far as their sandwiches go, they are often overlooked. Frankly, it’s little known that they even have a newly expanded lunch menu at the Park Road and S. Mint Locations.

After recently releasing their new and improved lunch menu, I thought it was about time to tell everyone that possibly the best sandwich in Charlotte is “The Royal Sandwich” from Pasta and Provisions, only available for lunch. With Italian meats, a sausage patty, provolone and the other makings of a classic Italian Sub, this is often sold out when I’m in the mood for it, which is quite often. If you haven’t tried this CLT classic yet, I highly recommend giving it a go.

other goings on 🔥

  • Don’t Tell Comedy Show is popping up at an undisclosed location in Charlotte tomorrow, 8/23. Supposedly hilarious shows would be a cool thing to check out. Grab tickets here.

  • Underground Springhouse is playing tonight, 8/22 at the Music Yard and put on a great show. Music Yard is underrated one of the best venues in Charlotte. Grab tickets here.
