¡THE QC LOCAL!

Charlotte’s a busy place. Here’s the best of it.

🎢 The Rail Trail at 5 P.M. on a Wednesday could be a Renaissance painting. Although I’m not sure that Da Vinci ever painted that many dogs? My point is, the vast majority of people are running, walking their dog, or going to Sycamore. Within that vast majority, there’s an even VASTER (yes, it’s a word, I checked) majority of people who are under 30.

There are lots of great Charlotte newsletters. I read Ted Williams’ “tiny money” every week when it comes out on Thursday mornings, and I highly suggest checking it out.

However, after recently starting my gig in downtown Charlotte, I’ve noticed that hardly any young people actually know Charlotte, because most people have just moved here in the past 5 years or so. While I’m not an absolute knowledge bank like Ted, I am a local who lives for providing his friends recommendations.

So, you can expect a newsletter every Sunday on all of my favorite local spots, things to do, or general things that I think might be worth knowing, even if my Mom is the only one who reads it.

🌹ROSE OF THE WEEK

  • Brixx’s Buffalo Chicken Pizza. Never misses, and it takes like 8 minutes if you pick it up at the Dilworth of Foxcroft Locations.

    • Brixx also does BOGO pizzas after 10 P.M. on weekends!

🪷BUD

  • Bryce Young’s soon to be Career Day vs. The Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, 11/24. Tickets are about $100 for nosebleeds, but Clutch and the Dog House are sure to be packed with whispers about how DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart were once in the same backfield.

(I could give you a thorn but we staying positive out here)

DEAL OF THE WEEK

🍕 Since it’s the first one, here are two 704 Tuesday Go-To’s for me.

  • ½ off Margarita’s @ Taco Mama (Dilworth)

  • $10.99 Burgers at all Reid’s locations (they’re huge and one of the best burgers in Charlotte)

The famous Reid’s burger (10.99 on Tuesday’s!)

WEEKLY BUZZ 🐝

  • Let’s not lie. Everyone loves trivia. The good news is Charlotte has tons of great trivia spots. Here are 10 of the best ones, compiled just for you.

    • Tremont on Thursday’s @ 6:30 P.M.

    • Caswell Station on Thursday’s @ 7 P.M.

    • Sir Edmond Halley’s on Monday’s starting @ 4 P.M.

    • Wooden Robot on Tuesday’s @ 7 P.M.

    • Ed’s Tavern on Thursday’s @ 8 P.M.

    • Hoppin (Music Trivia) on Wednesday’s @ 8 P.M.

    • Skiptown on Tuesday’s @ 7 P.M.

(1 of) My Favorite Restaurants Right Now

In my humble opinion, South Park’s Toscana is the best restaurant in the city.

Here’s why:

  • Tucked away in a corner of South Park, behind the Williams Sonoma that my Mom worked at during Grad School, wouldn’t usually be a spot where you would find my favorite food in Charlotte. Their wine list is curated perfectly, and their menu hardly changes because people love it so much. Although it is a nicer place, I happened to be there during the Alabama vs. Auburn 4th and 31 play last year, and the place went nuts, adding to my never-ending love for Toscana. Get the Buttera, you won’t regret it.

Toscana’s Buttera (I mean how can you beat that?)

UNDERRATED IN THE 704

  • Locals will roll their eyes at me, which they should. However, I doubt many of my new friends in Charlotte know about Providence Road Sundries, which is hands down one of my favorite places in the city. Plenty of TVs, lots of bar space, games for kids to occupy themselves with, and possibly the best French fries in the city.

    • It sits on Providence Road, just beyond the boundaries of Myers Park.

    • The parking lot is notorious for being hard to turn out of, so parking on Beverly isn’t a bad option.

    • Shoutout to my friend Sarah whose parents met here!

PROPERLY RATED IN THE 704

  • Culinary Dropout

    • Everyone knows about Culinary Dropout, and rightfully so, because it’s a great spot. The Pretzel bites are to die for, and the Korean Rib Eye Cap is one of the best steaks in Charlotte.

      • Even though it's in the prime of Southend, it’s not poorly priced for the quality. Not an everyday kind of thing, but definitely a great spot for a date or dinner with an old friend.

other goings on 🔥

  • Went to the Hornets/Pistons game on Thursday. Despite a half full stadium, the place was as fired up as it could be. I love going to games, especially when tickets are $4. An overtime thriller ended with a Hornets win, and a career high of 38 from Alabama Alum, Brandon Miller.

  • Country music star, Kacey Musgraves is coming to the Spectrum Center on December 5th. You can grab tickets here

  • Tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz, Francis Tiafoe, Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys will be playing in the Charlotte Invitational on December 6th at the Spectrum Center. Tickets for $50 at the moment, which you can find here.

  • After our Flag Football game last week, a couple members of our team went and cashed in our free bucket of beer at Gin Mill, and randomly ran into Jonathan Stewart, the former Panthers star Running Back, who was serving drinks behind the bar and raising money for one of his charities. Phenomenal guy doing great things for the city!
