Charlotte’s a busy place. Here’s the best of it.

🎢 For my buddy Jacob’s 23rd birthday this past Tuesday, he requested we go to the 20th Anniversary Re-Release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, to which we more than willingly obliged. There were several of our friends there that had never seen Revenge of the Sith, or any other Star Wars movie for that matter, which is probably the worst one to start with if you have no idea what’s going on.

However, to no one’s surprise, it changed their lives. What a way to spend a Tuesday. If I controlled Hollywood, I’d push for as many re-releases as possible to get people in the theater. The only downside was that the Regal Starlight is at least 20 minutes from Uptown/Southend area because movie theaters in Charlotte are few and far between.

🌹ROSE

• Last week, my friend Juli’s mom so graciously made us Pesto Chicken Sliders that have literally had us dreaming about them ever since. They’re super easy and a great thing to bring to a party that won’t break the bank. Recipe below:

  • 2-3 Chicken breasts

  • Pesto

  • Provolone cheese

  • 1 pack of King’s Hawaiian Rolls

    • Cut the chicken into small cubes, season well and pan-sear or grill. Cut the rolls in half, with a piece of chicken, cheese and dollop of pesto on each slider and bake for 5 minutes until golden brown.

    • Serve and enjoy!

🪷BUD

• Although North Carolina is not generally known for its lacrosse prowess, several of my close friends suggested spending our Friday night watching several of the best college lacrosse teams in the country play in the ACC Championship. Two classic ACC matchups take place tomorrow night at Legion Memorial Stadium, with Syracuse vs. Notre Dame going down at 5pm, and UNC vs. Duke at 8pm.

DEAL OF THE WEEK

🎥 Sticking with the theme of movies, if you want to actually see movies in theaters at an affordable rate, both AMC and Regal have identified Tuesdays as the day to do it.

If you are either an AMC Stubs or Regal Crown Club Member (both free to join), movies are half off on Tuesdays, which ends up around ~$8, as opposed to the normal $16. As movie theaters make their comeback, I highly recommend taking advantage of this.

RED BULL RUN !!

‼️A friend of mine from high school shot me an email this past week that she and her company (Red Bull) are putting on a great event this Sunday for a great cause.

The Red Bull '“Wings for Life” World Run takes place this Sunday, May 4th, leaping off at exactly 7am at Camp Northend. Instead of your usual “race” style with an end goal, this run has a “catcher car” that takes off 30 minutes after the start of the race, which increases pace as time goes on. Whenever the car catches you, your race is over, with the goal being to pace yourself ahead of the catcher car. Super cool concept.

100% of all donations and entry fees will go directly toward spinal cord injury research, something a lot of people are directly affected by, which is a great cause.

Highly recommend everyone check it out!

UNDERRATED IN THE 704

• The other day, a friend of mine from WFU texted me that he and his band (East Wing) were playing at Frenchy’s this Saturday, 5/3. I’ve only ever been one time, but my buddy says it’s a great place for live music because of the way they open it up and since so many people pass by on their way to Sycamore or QC Pourhouse, they draw a lot of foot traffic in since everyone loves live music.

• The Lovin’ Life Music Festival is this weekend. Supposedly they are expecting 80-90,000 people to be in attendance over the three days, so stay away from College street/Uptown this weekend if you hate traffic like me.

• Kentucky Derby festivities roll this weekend (which happens to be one of my favorite weekends). Best racehorse names this weekend include Citizen Bull (my pick at 20-1), Sandman, Sovereignty, Render Judgement, and Flying Mohawk.
