Why is it so cold?

Charlotte's newest cold plunge wellness club, Halal and monthly coffee

¡THE QC LOCAL!

Charlotte’s a busy place. Here’s the best of it.

🎢 Apparently, someone heard that Charlotte’s weather had been too good recently. While it has been sunny, the temperature has hardly dipped above 40 degrees at all this week, which means heavy jackets on my walks to work. The quote of the week has to come from my friend Alex, who snappily told me that “It doesn’t get cold like this in Florida!”

The less-than-ideal weather forced our flag football team to play in “Green Bay-like conditions” according to my friend Jacob this past Wednesday night. Despite the conditions, our team’s defensive stand in the second half propelled us to a 2-point victory on a game-winning 2-point conversion stop. Electric.

  • The wonderful people over at Innovative Eye Care in Dilworth. After an inexplicable issue with my left eye Wednesday morning made my daily life incredibly difficult, the great people at Innovative got me in and out within 20 minutes and gave me antibiotics that cleared up my sight in just a couple of hours. Big shoutout to Dr. Mumford, who’s been my eye doctor for as long as I can remember.

  • If you aren’t aware, there’s a pretty big football game in Charlotte this weekend. The ACC championship, featuring a battle between SMU vs. Clemson, goes down at 8 P.M at Bank of America Stadium. The official tailgate party will be happening all day on Saturday at the one and only, Graham Street Pub. Supposedly, it’s going to be 36 degrees at kickoff, so bundle up if you plan to grab tickets, which are $40 minimum.

The Rise of “Social Wellness Clubs”

‼️A couple of months ago, I noticed a really cool Instagram Account, called @CoffeeandChill, which is a wellness based monthly event that encourages camaraderie around cold plunges and coffee. Coffee and Chill started in Miami and has now expanded to three spots in California (LA, San Diego and Bondi Beach).

Branded as a “Social Wellness Club,” Coffee and Chill puts on exclusive events that feature Cold Plunges, Coffee, Art, and other awesome Wellness vendors. Tickets range from $25-$50, and each city has gained 15k+ followers on Instagram.

My first thought was “Wow, this is cool. Someone should do this in Charlotte.”

And Someone Did! 🧊

Enter Charlotte entrepreneur, Justin Kelsey.

A serial digital media entrepreneur, including his most recent venture, SwitchFrame, which uses AI to deliver extraordinary video testimonials, Justin’s clearly got a knack for building, which is amazing to see in Charlotte.

His newest venture is a Charlotte-based Social Wellness Club, called the @ChillyCoffeeClub, that combines cold plunges, saunas and caffeine to make awesome wellness events, deemed “exclusive plunge parties,” aimed to promote social wellbeing. With one event under its belt, the Chilly Coffee Club is looking to take over the Charlotte wellness scene, boasting “wellness, music, caffeine, and community.”

The next event is on December 14th, featuring cold plunges, sauna tents, live music, chiropractic adjustments and the list goes on.

Hope to see everyone there!

Chilly Coffee Club’s next event is December 14th!

One of My Favorite Restaurants Right Now

Three months ago, I started my new job uptown, which I love. My office is in the BAC Corporate Center, meaning that every day I get to pass by one of the best eats in Charlotte. Another budget friendly spot that is good for all occasions, the Halal Food Cart on S. Tryon, right outside of the BAC Corporate Center, never ceases to amaze me with its quality and tastiness.

Cash only, with nothing over $10 on the menu, the Halal Cart has been serving up New York Style Halal food for years. Good for literally any occasion, the Halal Cart is one of the best bangs for your buck in the city.

The Chicken and Lamb Combo plate with both sauces is to die for. Not to mention, it’s $8.99 and usually feeds me for 2 meals!

UNDERRATED IN THE 704 ☕

While I was catching up with a friend over the chilly Barn Burners run this past Monday, he turned to me and exclaimed “You should put this in your newsletter!” So here it is:

Roots Cafe Southend does a “Monthly Coffee Subscription” that Boston made me aware of, which is $25 a month for unlimited drip coffee, and $45 a month for more complex drinks (espressos, lattes, etc.)

They also have scrumptious and affordable breakfast. Make sure to check them out!

DEAL OF THE WEEK

🍕If you haven’t heard, Cheat’s Cheesesteaks opened their second location in Southend this past month, which means that everyone should know about their ½-off Chicken Cheesesteaks every Monday and their 2-for-$22 Tuesdays.

If you’re looking for a delicious early week meal deal, I highly recommend checking them out.
